The Boy Scouts of America's 100th Anniversary represents much more than a date on the calendar. It represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tell the entire Scouting in America story - to celebrate our rich heritage and to instill a deeper appreciation for the important role that Scouting will play in shaping our country's future. Here in the Old Hickory Council our 100th Anniversary team has been working for the past six months to develop a plan of celebration that will include every Scout, parent and leader within every district and community. Our purpose-driven celebration will include a full year of activities and initiatives that will begin this July and run through the National Jamboree in August of 2010. These activities and initiatives are all based upon five areas of focus: Leadership, Achievement, Community Service, Character and Outdoors. Our local plan to celebrate the 100th Anniversary and offer everyone an opportunity to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event can be found right here on this web page. National Boy Scouts of America Anniversary plans, along with tons of resource material can also be found on the national site atwww.scouting.org/100years . We know you won't be able to participate in everything, but we hope you and your Scouts will build into your next year's program as many of the following activities and initiatives as possible. Let's show the world that Scouting is as vital and relevant today as it was when our journey began!
