 COMMISSIONERS TRAINING

One of the primary responsibilities of the commissioner service program is to recruit and train new commissioners to better serve the units they represent. A trained Unit Commissioner, for example, can help a unit achieve its goals and objectives. By serving as a liaison between the scouting unit and the local council, the Unit Commissioner can help the unit succeed! A trained commissioner can assist in many ways, with the re-charter process, by making a charter presentation, by providing resources for trained leaders and community members, and by helping the unit earn the National Quality Unit Award.

One of the first training programs offered each January is the Commissioners College. This is an annual training event that is normally held the fourth Saturday in January, and is designed for potential, new, and seasoned commissioners. The program is patterned after the normal college curriculum in which there is a Bachelor, Master, Doctorate, and Post Doctorate program level.

The one-day training conference is known as the Triad Cluster Commissioner's College because it is a joint effort of three councils:Old Hickory, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Old North State.  The cost of the course will be $10-$25 depending on the degree and whether or not you pre-register. The fee includes course materials, breaks, lunch, patches, bolos and certificates.
