It's Popcorn Time! - Earlybird Online Sales Promo - New Tins!

That's right, it's popcorn time here in the Old Hickory Council! Although our door-to-door sales don't begin until September 25th there's already a whole lot of selling going on through our special online sales earlybird promotion. All families should have received a mailing with all the info, but if not just click here to go to the popcorn page for everything you need to know.

Scouts who create an account and sell at least $100 through online sales between the dates of August 1 and September 24, will receive two tickets to a Wake Forest University OR Winston Salem State University football game...and all online sales will count toward your other prizes/rewards during the regular door-to-door sale September 25 to November 1!

Online sales are a great way to make sales to out-of-state relatives and friends. Online sales system products may be different than what is offered locally in our council, and pricing will be higher due to shipping costs, but we've never met a grandma yet who doesn't want to support her grandson - even if the pricing is a bit higher! And by the way, you don't have to deliver the product or collect the money!

Lastly, don't forget to check out the dates and locations for the unit popcorn leader training sessions in Dobson, Wilkesboro and Winston-Salem in late August. Attending training is a requirement to be eligible for the bonus 4% commission to units!

Important Information on Adult Leadership Policy Change

On Monday, July 27, the National Executive Board ratified a resolution that removes the national restriction on openly gay adult leaders and employees. Of those present and voting, 79 percent voted in favor of the resolution. The resolution was recommended for ratification by the Executive Committee earlier this month. The resolution is effective immediately.

Chartered organizations will continue to select their adult leaders and religious chartered organizations may continue to use religious beliefs as criteria for selecting adult leaders, including matters of sexuality. This change allows Scouting’s members and parents to select local units, chartered to organizations with similar beliefs, that best meet the needs of their families. This change also respects the right of religious chartered organizations to choose adult volunteer leaders whose beliefs are consistent with their own.

Moving forward, we will continue to focus on reaching and serving youth, helping them grow into good, strong citizens. By focusing on the goals that unite us, we are able to accomplish incredible things for young people and the communities we serve.
