DEN CHIEF TRAINING
A good Den Chief is essential to retention of boys in Cub Scouts, and helps provide a good transition into Boy Scouting. He agrees to provide service and leadership to his troop and assigned Cub Scout den. He serves as activities assistant at den meetings, prepares boys to join Boy Scouting, and serves as a role model. What does the Den Chief get in return? He satisfies the leadership requirement for advancement, helps to insure that his troop continues to prosper, and experiences the satisfaction of helping teach boys about Scouting.
How does a Den Chief learn to do the job? Den Chief Training will teach everything that is needed. When is the next council den chief training? It is usually held as a companion to the annual Pow Wow training in January or February. The training will be split into a morning and an afternoon session. Between them participants will have opportunities to earn at least one, and likely two merit badges. What more could a Scout want? The cost of the day will be $10.00 and will include all handouts, lunch and a TRAINED patch. Advance registration is suggested and should be accomplished at least one week prior to the date of training.
If you need den chief training before January, contact the District Training Committee or your Unit Commissioner to get a session scheduled. Troops and packs are encouraged to work in concert to recruit boys to attend the training and become active Den Chiefs.
