 2008 Popcorn Information

It's almost Popcorn time again in the Old Hickory Council!  We're gearing up for another great year of prizes, fun, excitement and great Scouting. This year we'll be adding a new Trail Mix product to our lineup, so come back to our web site often to find out what else we've got in store for this year's season!

Popcorn Forms and Flyers

 Sports Spectacular

Thanks to everyone who weathered the cold and rain and still had a great time at the first ever Sports Spectacular! Everyone who purchased tickets for the baseball game, regardless of whether they attended or not, will be receiving a voucher in the mail for a baseball game of their choice during the remaining Wake Forest baseball season.

Plans are already underway for next year's event, which will have a rain plan that will include a large enough facility to conduct the entire event indoors if the weather turns bad!

Thanks go out to Wake Forest University for hosting our event, and especially to the student athletes who did such a fine job under difficult circumstances.

Thanks also go out to the Scouts who worked so hard to sell popcorn and qualify for this event. We promise an even better Sports Spectacular for the 2008 popcorn sale, and hope to see you again at Wake Forest University! Go Deacs!

Kernel's Choice Units get 34% Commission
on their Popcorn Sales!

All units that sell popcorn will receive 30% commission on their gross sales, and those that  achieve the Kernel's Choice Unit designation  will receive an additional 4% commission, for a total of 34%, by doing the four things listed below.

1.  Your Unit Popcorn Chairman must attend one of the district kickoff and training sessions held in late August or early September. If this is your popcorn chairman's first sale they must also stay after the general training session to learn about the popcorn sales system. Attending your district's kickoff is always preferable, but we know that's not always possible, so you are welcome to attend a neighboring district's kickoff if you cannot make yours.

2.  Your unit must enter their product order and prize order on the Trail's End web site no later than midnight on Monday, October 27th, 2008. Boy Scout Troops or Venture Crews who opt for the High Adventure/Special Activity Prize option, and out of the council prize program for an additional 4% unit commission to design their own prize package must inform the council office of their intention to do so and submit in writing their replacement unit prize package by the first day of the sale. Cub Scout packs should continue to use the council prize package for ease of use and administration.

3.  All units must turn in their unit and youth sales goals in writing on the form provided before the first day of sales on September 27th. Goals should be derived from your unit budget planning process.

4.  All units must conduct a unit popcorn kickoff with their Scouts and Scout parents. For packs that means hold it at your September pack meeting, and for troops it means hold it at a Court of Honor or special meeting in late September.

The Kernel's Choice Unit additional 4% commission on unit sales is voluntary, and over and above the 30% commission all units will receive on their popcorn sales, but we will be adhering to these requirements strictly. So don't blow an additional 4% commission by neglecting any of these four requirements!

Prize package designs, unit decisions on extra commission or prizes, and unit and youth goals must be emailed to Betty Ann Ritchey at britchey@bsamail.org or Steve Daniel at sdaniel@bsamail.org, or faxed to the Scout Office at 336-760-4222 before the first day of the sale on September 27th to qualify.
