On Saturday, July 31, 2010, we’re going to host the biggest Scouting party in the council’s history – and we want you to be there!

We’ve got the brand spanking new BB&T ballpark reserved just for our party, and we’re taking reservations until we run out of seats at just over 5,000 Scouts, Scouters, family members and friends!

Gates will open at 3 p.m. with festivities begining at 4 p.m. with food, fun, fellowship, games, activities, demonstrations, special guests, music featuring Nashville rock/pop band REVIVE – New Artist of the Year winner at the 2010 Dove Awards, more food, a parade of units, a little bit of talking!!, then at 8 p.m., the Scouting family — past, present and future — will be able to take part in a special nationwide broadcast. A Shining Light Across America will bring the Centennial Celebration Show from the 100th Anniversary National Scout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Va. to communities across the country via satellite transmission directly to the jumbo-tron at the ball park!

Wow! What an afternoon to remember, and what a great way to close out our year of centennial celebration. The cost will be just $5 per person if paid before July 20th, which will cover the cost of admission and a specially designed Centennial Celebration Commemorative Patch ($7 per person after July 20th). No refunds. Children under 5 years of age get in free! There will be lots of great food for purchase, or you can tailgate at your car, but no food or coolers will be allowed inside the stadium. We'll also have specially designed 100th Anniversary t-shirts for $7.50 if purchased in advance online or $10 at the event.

So here’s how to sign up: The best way will be to sign up as a unit, by accessing the on-line order system from our council home page at oldhickorycouncil.org, and paying by credit card, or by printing off the order form and mailing it in with your unit check. We do realize with most Cub Scout Packs not meeting regularly during the summer it may be hard to coordinate these efforts as a unit, so if you’re having difficulty working things out through your unit leader, individual family sign-ups will also be accepted. We will compile individual sign-ups we’ve received on line and mail a listing to unit leaders in the first week of July to help with coordination of efforts at the unit level. Where possible we encourage units to travel and sit together so as to make the parade of units a bit easier to manage.

We have volunteer opportunities in the following areas for those who would like to help staff the event: ushers, registration, parking, guides and activities. You can call Steve Daniel at 336-760-2900, or email him atsteve.daniel@scouting.org.

We’ll have even more specific information about the entertainment we’re in store for from the Jamboree, as well as what our local show will include as the event draws near, so stay tuned by checking this page often - but don’t wait to sign up, or you just may miss the biggest party in our history! Many thanks to our event sponsors, Hanesbrands, Inc., and Southern Community Bank.
