The BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) online prerequisite training is a mandatory four-part course designed to prepare Cub Scout leaders for safe and fun pack camping, taking approximately 45-60 minutes. It must be completed prior to the in-person, practical session and is found at my.scouting.org under "Expanded Learning". 

Steps to Complete BALOO Prerequisite Training Online:

  • Log In: Go to my.scouting.org and log in (or create an account using your BSA ID).
  • Locate Course: Select "Menu" > "My Training" > "Training Courses by Program" > "Expanded Learning".
  • Complete Modules: Select and complete the four BALOO modules (Introduction, 100+ Acre Field, Preparations, and The Campout).
  • Print Certificate: Upon completion, print the certificate of completion to bring to the in-person, hands-on BALOO training.
  • Additional Training: Hazardous Weather Training should also be completed in the same portal.
